It was with broken hearts that we announced the passing of Officer Olivia Zick, 30, of Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, February 11, 2023. The baseline of who we are as people has changed.

Olivia was a 2011 graduate of Mountain View Jr/Sr High School. Upon her high school graduation, she made the exciting decision to move to Cincinnati for college. She was a 2015 graduate from Xavier University. She loved her time in Cincinnati and called it home.

Olivia lived a life of service. She was always willing to help others. In 2016, on her birthday, she became an altruistic kidney donor. Her donation triggered a domino of donations and transplants. This feeling of helping others is what made Olivia want to become a police officer.

Continuing her dedication to service, in June of 2020, Olivia graduated from the city of Cincinnati police department academy. She loved being a police officer. She was so proud to represent the city of Cincinnati.

Olivia received multiple commendations; including one Chief’s Commendation for exemplary behavior during a hostage situation and a second for assisting a mentally ill patient to safety while on a dangerous section of highway, a Patrol Bureau Commendation for her excellence to duty during a traffic enforcement blitz, as well as several for assistance with citizens in medical distress and excellence in investigations.

She always looked forward to her many trips she made back home to the family farm. Olivia will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her contagious smile, her laugh, her hugs, and her love of dressing-up like a T-Rex. Olivia is dearly missed by all who knew her, especially her eight nieces and nephews, who all just adored her.

Olivia loved to travel, check in on others and had the ability to make everyone feel understood and loved during the darkest of times. Her love of children flowed into her work. She loved meeting kids in different neighborhoods. She would take basketballs, baseballs and other items to give to the kids. She could often be found shooting some hoops with kids that she had just met. When asked why she chose those neighborhoods, she said it was because the kids that she met, appreciated her visits. She wanted to build rapport with the communities that she worked in. She built many relationships in this way. She was selfless in her time and generosity.

You would never know that behind that gorgeous smile, Liv was suffering from mental illness and hid her tears. Our family’s goal is to advocate for mental health and suicide prevention initiatives in order to continue Liv’s legacy. In Olivia’s honor; do something good for someone, adopt a pet, plant a tree, laugh a lot, and love deeply.
