Blue H.E.L.P. Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Grant – Worcester, MA – September 20, 2019 – Blue H.E.L.P., an organization devoted to law enforcement suicide awareness, stigma reduction and family support, today announced it has received a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions.

Through the grant, Blue H.E.L.P. will host the first bereavement camp exclusively for children of law enforcement officers & first responders whose parents died by suicide. Two camps will be scheduled, one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast mixing traditional camp fun & camaraderie with customized grief education and emotional support delivered by trained professionals and caring volunteers. The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as Blue H.E.L.P. which support and advance public safety programs and technology and engineering education initiatives.

“This grant is truly ground-breaking; Motorola has taken the lead in support of families who have lost an officer to suicide. Our families have waited a long time for recognition and respect, they are now receiving it. It would be impossible to articulate the significance of this grant”, said Karen Solomon, President of Blue H.E.L.P.

Camp April is named after the widow of Officer Max Scherzer, April’s courage and resiliency are a daily inspiration to the Blue H.E.L.P. team. Max was unable to seek the help he needed and lost his battle on August 21, 2016. Since his death, April has been left alone to raise her then four-month-old twins with few financial benefits or support. The significance of April’s name should not be lost on anyone – April showers bring May flowers – this camp will help plant the seeds of hope for the children who have been left to deal with this tragedy.

This year, Motorola Solutions Foundation grants will support programs that help more than 2 million students, teachers, first responders and community members around the globe. There is a specific focus on providing grants to programs that impact underrepresented populations, including females, minorities, people with disabilities, veterans and others.

“We are very pleased to support the work of Blue H.E.L.P.,” said Monica Mueller, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “We believe in organizations that foster innovation and drive change, and we’re proud to be part of the positive impact they are making in the community.”
